Kate & Kenley are now bff's

Kate Uhle has just officially become Kenley's bff.  Why, you ask? Ohhhhhh  because she just bought Kenley a monkey hat.   Yessss.  I cannot wait for it to arrive.  Every baby needs a monkey hat. 

Did I steal from the BabyGap?

While in Texas, I did lots of Kenley shopping...  Stopped into BabyGap one of those days and found this adorable little dress.  I had to have it.  And then I saw the price tag.  I almost fell over.  $4.99?  You crazy BabyGap-- that must be a mistake.   Then, there below the rack was another with the same price.  

A pink plaid dress with a dropped waist belt? Yes,  I must own this. 

I just went to the website to find the image file of this cute ass dress and it is way more than $4.99 on their website. Apparently someone messed up on the markdowns? 

Or I am just awesome (or a thief).

I am dying to have a pregnancy massage... any massage for that matter, but to be safe - a pregnancy massage. I know there is someone out there who wants to buy me the New Mom Massage package from Spa Phoenix. You know you want to... just send it along. I will be forever grateful.

Someone buy me a hat from this fantastic etsy shop...  I love to look at all the cute babies but either of these two hats will do just fine.   PS - I am thinking a size of 6m or bigger since Kenley will be a summer baby.

19 week update

We flew back in from Texas yesterday. Andrew and I are exhausted... who knew such a small time difference would cause such a dramatic feeling of jet lag. Ugh.  It was terrible getting up for work today.  

Tomorrow I go to Naval Medical Center P-town to have the 2nd trimester diagnostic ultrasound.  If we had not found out that Peanut is Mrs. Peanut then tomorrow would be the day we would be waiting for.  I am excited though to see Princess Kenley again and to hopefully hear that she is a good size and weight and all looks well.  Too bad I have to leave for this appointment at 6:15 am tomorrow.  Damn you downtown tunnel.  Updates to come, as well as some ultrasound pictures.

Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.

Peanut is now...

We had our ultrasound this morning... and Peanut decided to keep her legs crossed for most of it.  The sonographer said she knew right away but was checking to be entirely sure.  Yes, indeed. It's a girl!  Kenley Paradise Porter.  So weird that now we can call her by name.   I guess my gut instinct was right, who knew.

We arrived in Texas on Friday night, around 10pm est.  The flight was miserable if I may say so.  I will not be flying anymore while having a big fat belly.  If only the seats reclined a bit more it wouldn't be so bad.  And maybe the fact that I was unprepared for the flight and the only movie I had on my new macbook wouldn't play because iTunes wanted to be a jerk and tell me I was not authorized to play the movie... even though it was purchased AND downloaded on said computer.  iTunes = my enemy on this flight. 

I have learned my lesson and will be more prepared on our flight home next Sunday... when there will be another weekly size update.  Stay tuned for Peanut's gender ultrasound -- tomorrow @ 11am est (10am in TX). 

Your fetus has become amazingly mobile (at least compared to you), passing the hours yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing. And, baby's finally big enough that you'll be able to feel those movements soon.

FYI - My monkey hat shop is back open! Yesss! Just in time for me to buy a monkey hat after we find out what sex Peanut is. Just wanted to share my excitement with all of you about citefuzz being open again!

The suspense is building...

We will be in Texas tomorrow night. Don't get me wrong, I am excited to be there just to hang out with everyone and have Andrew be with his family for the holidays. I kinda just want to get there because once we are in TX, we are one step closer to having the ultrasound. WoooT! 4 more days until we find out if Peanut will be wearing one of these...

Finally, we agree on something... Andrew and I talked about names again. Seeing as the the 22nd is quickly approaching, we are thinking more and more about what Peanut will be named. Here is our top pick as of this afternoon. Only 8 more days until we find out...

these comparisons are getting more bizarre

So this week, according to TheBump Mr. Peanut is an onion.... wth? Looks like they used all of the good yummy fruits early on and are now reaching for something that is close in size to Mr. Peanut. But an onion? really?

Baby's skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it. The umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and those little fingers and toes are now topped by one-of-a-kind prints.

Lauren sent me this fantastic website to find inspiration for baby names... after she figured out that naming the baby Camden would result in CamPorter/Camcorder. Not cool.

Sooo remember those Oranges??

Yeaaa... remember this? Jimmy and I made a trip up to Trader Joe's this weekend and I bought an entire case of Satsuma oranges. Delicious. I have already eaten 4 of them. And I have had them for about 48 hours. Just wanted to talk about my self-fulfilling prophecy. Oranges and I are currently bff's.

Only two more weeks until we find out what Little Peanut is. Andrew and I both want to have a boy... more so now, I have an urge to start calling this guy Mr. Peanut instead of just Peanut. In 14 days we will know! Ahhhh! I want to know now!

Andrew's favorite week by far

I showed Andrew this week's size update and he was so happy. Andrew hearts avocados. He would eat them every day if he could, and if we could afford that.

Watch what you say... tiny bones forming in baby's ears mean the little one can now pick up your voice. Eyebrows, lashes and hair are starting to fill in, and taste buds are forming. And, if you're interested, an ultrasound might be able to determine gender.

A week full of oranges.

Feeling pretty normal again this week. Nothing out of the ordinary except for it's getting harder to bend down to tie my shoes which makes me feel like a fat ass. And my maternity clothes are starting to actually fit, whereas the last couple weeks my pants are always falling down.

Went shopping on Black Friday with Lauren, Mom and Gram in PA. The mall up there was not as crazy as what I have seen in Fairfax. They have a new Target up there and that was ri-donk... way too many people, Mom was driving her cart like a maniac and I was ready to punch people for getting in the way of my fat pregnant ass. Got some good deals at Target then moved on to Babies R Us where we purchased the booster seat/high chair do-dad thing that sits on top of a regular chair. It was on sale and everyone loves a sale on baby gear. Oh, one of my favorite purchases... My mom got me this fantab blanket:


Continued to the mall, got some christmas presents, door busters (!) and some fat maternity clothes. Can you tell I am having trouble with all this weight gaining biz? Whatev.




Here is this weeks update on Mr. Peanut-pie.

Continuing the march towards normal proportions, baby's legs now outmeasure the arms. And, finally, all four limbs have functional joints. Your fetus is squirming and wiggling like crazy down in the womb, though you probably still can't feel the movements.



PS - This image will probably influence me to eat an entire crate of oranges this week. Funny how pictures of food make you want to eat it. Don't believe me? craving...

Another week down... Lemons vs. Peaches?

I thought that at by this point, I would feel completely different. Meaning I would actually feel pregnant. Not the case. Most of the time, I just feel chubby, bloated, hungry and maybe a little bitchy (you can ask Andrew about this last one).

Thankfully though, the past week or so I have had a lot more energy than I did in the first trimester. I used to have difficulty getting my ass out of bed. Each morning my alarm would go off and I would just want to cry about the fact that I had to get up, take a shower AND get to work. These tasks just seemed like too much to accomplish. But, needless to say, I got it done almost every day. With the exception of like one day, where I came home early from work. Now, my alarm goes off and I can get up without feeling like I wish I was the dog who could just sleep all afternoon while everyone was out working. I even had enough energy the past two weeks to tackle some of the painting that needed to get done at our new townhouse. With my mom's help, we painted the kitchen along with most of the ceiling in the downstairs. Andrew had a work filled weekend, painting popcorn ceilings is more difficult than he thought. Peanut's grandma helped hang some pictures and art work that we had yet to put up. It is like waking up to a different house. We enjoyed the fruits of our labor by having a little fire in our fireplace and watching television.

Anywhoo, back to Peanut. Here are Peanut's stats for this week, well according to theBump. I go to the doctor next week on Tuesday for the quad screen tests, so there will be more of an update then. This week Peanut is the size of a lemon, which seems a little backwards. He was a peach last week. Are lemons bigger than peaches?
Your adorable little fetus is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, and (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth.

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. Snoogle to the rescue...

I have been having trouble sleeping comfortably and I know it is just going to get worse as I progress. Therefore, I am buying myself the snoogle pillow today. What better time to start using it then when I have the whole king size bed to myself! (Andrew is gone until Friday) Go snoogle Go snoogle Go!



Update: Snoogle and I are now officially BFF. It has changed my life. Everyone should own a snoogle.

Hello wk13!

So yesterday was the start of week 13... Hard to believe I am beginning my 4th month of pregnancy. Check out what's happening...

Being pregnant and all, I find myself wanting to eat anything mentioned in conversation, advertised, or presented to me. Even if presented through a website picture. Here are some things I wish I could eat right now... They come from the Etsy shop whimsyandspice.

A trustworthy source?

So TheBump has a Chinese Gender prediction chart... Based on when I conceived (which is not definitive) here is what they say we are having. According to some of my friends, these things are usually right. I guess we will find out on Dec. 22!

What will it be?

I have scheduled an elective ultrasound to find out what baby Peanut will be! We will be in Texas the week of Christmas, which is the first week we can find out the sex. So I have scheduled to find out on Dec. 22 @ 10am. We will go to a clinic in Arlington, TX with Mary and Richard (and maybe Kathy and Scott) to find out what baby Peanut will be. I am so excited! I will have to wait patiently until then.... Come on December!

Crib notes...

We ventured out to the oceanfront last night to pick up the Dana crib from pbKids. A really nice couple (and their adorable 3 year old daughter) were selling this crib on craigsList. I was nervous as we headed out there, maybe I got my hopes up and the crib is in bad shape. What if it is missing pieces or is broken? Well when we arrived and I saw it, I was very relieved. It is in fantastic shape, with just a couple minor paint chips near the base of the head and foot boards - no big deal. We brought it home and now we just have to worry about how to store it nicely for the next few months. I am so excited to have this big purchase out of the way. Now, on to matching furniture pieces!

I heart PongoBaby

Today I decided I would go look at the diaper bag from PongoBaby's shop on Etsy again, just because I like to admire it. And I was thinking of maybe even purchasing it today. So I get on Etsy and what do I find???? SOLD OUT! Noooooooo!

I decided to write to PongoBaby to see if there was hope for one last creation of this marvelous bag. I was surprised to see she had replied about 10 minutes after I wrote... She has enough fabric to make just one more bag! She said that the fabric was discontinued in 2006 so she couldn't find more. Thank goodness I decided to write her. She set up a special custom order for me and I just purchased the bag! Yessssss! I am so happy! My bag will be here probably by next week! Yay!

The Dana crib from pbKids

Yes, it is very early to be buying a crib but the crib that I wanted was being sold on craigsList by a nice lady in VaBeach. We are going to check it out/pick it up sometime this week, hopefully tonight. I have to call her and set that up. It is gently used and has been in storage since the last time her 3 year old used it. I am so excited about this crib! The ones I found @ Target and Babies R Us had some ok Consumer Reports reviews but they all did not get good consumer reviews online. So I started to panic. Then I saw this one from pbKids and even though I could not afford it brand new, I was going to find it somewhere. And that I did. Hooray craigsList.
